Lapis lazuli is a metamorphic rock rather than a single mineral, composed primarily of lazurite, which gives it its deep royal blue colour, along with calcite, sodalite, and often flecks of golden pyrite scattered through its surface like stars. It has a Mohs hardness of 5 to 6 and has been prized for thousands of years, used by ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, and Renaissance painters who ground it into the pigment ultramarine. It is found primarily in Afghanistan, where it has been mined for over 6000 years.
Metaphysically lapis lazuli is the stone of truth, wisdom, and inner sovereignty. It is strongly aligned with the third eye and throat chakras, opening the mind to deeper insight while empowering honest and courageous communication. It has long been associated with royalty and the divine, carrying an energy of dignity, clarity, and the kind of confidence that comes not from ego but from genuine self knowledge.
It encourages the seeker to know themselves deeply, speak their truth fearlessly, and trust the wisdom they carry within. A stone for those stepping into their own authority.
